the phantom antique booth

Sarah and I have this phantom antique booth, that sits in a pretty antique mall somewhere, or perhaps in a hip and cozy coffee shop. In it we sell beautiful things that we find at the bins and elsewhere, that we lovingly collect, clean up, and pass along. It's not impossible that this could happen, but it's unlikely given the price of antique booths in this town. And how busy both of us mamas are. Very. Unlikely.

Similar to that, I have all these phantom projects. Dream projects. I super mean to do them. But even though I must pat myself on the back for managing to make both chutney and homemade mustard in time for Thanksgiving, I have to admit I will probably not get to some of these ideas.

So I was saying to Sarah - because I know she has a similar list that's a mile long - that if we blogged about them it would be just the same as if we'd actually done them.

"Oh yes, it would be exactly as if we had actually done them."  (She did say this. I'm not sure if she was being facetious).

So here is a beginning of my phantom project list. It's just the tip of the iceberg.

soft boiled eggs in pretty thrifted egg cups
felted soaps with dark red roving
story quilt
handsewn duvet cover
fabric books for babies
aran sweaters for the boys
pot roast
mantelpiece diorama
a full-length cafe apron
holiday cards, for once
doing something with walnuts (pincushions?)

What's on your list?

I don't quite know why but this post reminded me of something that, while I was in school, a college professor said to his English 101 class. He asked his students to write down their dreams and inevitably somebody said that they couldn't do it because they never remembered their dreams. He replied something to the effect of, "Oh well, just make something up and write it down. It's all comes from the same place as your dreams do."
Unfortunately, I had another professor for English 101 who's topic for the class that semester was "trivia" rather than "dreams".

Sorry, no list. It would be too long. Meathead post tomorrow, though!

A complicated Fairisle. I'd never do it - because i'd never wear it - but I love the idea of it.

Meathead post! http://fiberfish.blogspot.com/2006/11/meathead.html

I love roosters! My list is quite long too. My job interferes with completing this list. Heck starting it would be nice! About 12 sweaters for me. 2 sweaters for each girl. 1 sweater & vest for B. Mathching socks for all. A couple of felted bags. A family of felted slippers. A miniature house & accessories (for the wall). Cards. And my walnut project is making tea lights out of them. Knit design. Adding to the "list".

i have a collection of pine cones in the trunk of my car that keeps bigger everytime i pick up another armful from my yard. they're in my car because i have yet to get them in my house. and i still don't know what i want to do with them.

by the way, my meathead is done ...

The first items would have to be felted sweater hats. I love yours. It made me run out to Goodwill and slog through rack after rack of fun, brightly colored AUGGH-CRYLIC ones until, in desperation, I crawled to the men's department and found a pair of XL lovlies, one in lambswool in a sky blue, and the other, an autumnal orange proudly waving it's "100% WOOL" tag right under my nose!

*whew*

felt luggage tags
button wreaths
dolls
a me-sized sweater
earrings
cute pincushions (got a start there, at least!)

i'm going to make a homemade advent calendar! sometime between now and midnight! whee! ;)

and did i ever tell you about my maternity sweater? it'll be done by 12 weeks. fer sure.

I really like the idea of this list, mine is always neverending.
I was wondering if oyu could e-mail me a meathead pattern anyway even though I'm too late for the knitalong, I saw a hat in Topshop today (UK chain store) which was similar,

Whoops! Were we supposed to let you know when we'd posted about our meatheads? Mine's here: http://www.jodigreen.ca/blog/archives/2006/11/its_a_grave_mis.html, and here: http://www.jodigreen.ca/blog/archives/2006/11/meathead_now_wi.html

can somebody explain the walnut pincushion idea? I can't picture it.

Oh, you've inspired me. Now I have to make a dream project list on my own blog. Thank you!

Walnut pincushion? I'm guessing you stuff half a walnut shell with a little bit of wool, then tuck a piece of fabric around it very tightly and glue the edges down inside the shell, enclosing the wool.

My mother-in-law made a Christmas ornament that is a little felt mouse in a walnut-shell bed. Same idea, I think.
